The Council of Ministers has today authorized the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) to tender, through Adif AV, the second phase of renewal of the detours of the Madrid-Seville High-Speed Line (LAV) for an estimated value of 53.3 million euros (VAT not included), including the materials to be used in the works.
In this second phase, 47 track devices will be installed, essential for circulation by making it possible for trains to change from one track to another, which is in addition to the 63 that are already being deployed in a first phase, completed at 62%. In total, 110 detours will be replaced on this high-speed line with the most advanced technology, suitable for maximum speeds of 350 km/h.
The refurbishment works are carried out mainly during the maintenance bands (in the early morning hours without commercial circulation) and represent a great technical and logistical challenge due to the size of these track devices, which requires the mobilization of important technical and human resources.
LAV Madrid-Seville Modernization Plan
These works are part of the integral modernization plan that Mitma carries out in the LAV Madrid-Seville, which has an investment of 680 million euros, so that the first high-speed line in Spain, in operation for more than 30 years, maintains its high standards of quality and reliability and responds to the increase in traffic, associated with the liberalization of passenger transport.
This gives new impetus to the plan for the modernization of the Madrid-Seville LAV, from which Adif has already mobilized almost all of the investment and actions, covering all the elements of the line, from the road and the infrastructures (viaducts and tunnels), to the associated systems (electrification, signalling and communications).
This action and the renewal of the LAV contribute to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 9, which promotes reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures.
European funding
This project will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). A way to make Europe.
