The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, visited La Palma today, together with the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, Arcadi Spain, to follow up the agreements between the State and municipal local entities, for the recovery of infrastructures damaged by the volcanic eruption of 2021.
Torres, who has held meetings with the municipal corporations of Tazacorte, Los Llanos de Aridane and El Paso, has pointed out that “the Government of Spain has advanced 53 million euros, dependent on the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, for reconstruction works, both for the Island Council -18.3 million-, and for the three localities -34.6 million, among three-”.
In this way, he indicated that, “with this disbursement, the Government of Spain has complied 100% with the commitment signed with the municipalities and the Cabildo de La Palma, in the current agreement”.
By municipalities, Tazacorte has received 4.6 million euros, to finance 50% of 12 road network, supply and sanitation actions. The minister explained that, faced with the request of this municipality to increase the execution deadline, which expired on December 31, “the will of the Government of Spain is to help; therefore, we are formally requesting a report to State Law and Intervention on the possibility of extending this period”.
As for Los Llanos de Aridane, 16.5 million were transferred, for 17 road network performances and for the Cemetery of Our Lady of Los Angeles-Las Mancha.
Finally, El Paso has obtained 13.4 million for 6 road network performances; supply and sanitation; and sports facilities (terrero de lucha and soccer field).
“The Government of Spain complies with palm trees and palm trees. More than 1.2 billion euros have already been invested. It is the administration that has dedicated the most funds to the reconstruction of the island. And so it will continue to be,” added the minister, who recalled that the latest measures adopted were the subject of an RDL, which was approved without votes against, in the Congress of Deputies on December 11, 2025.
Torres has announced, after meetings with mayors David Ruiz (Tazacorte), José Javier Pérez (Los Llanos de Aridane) and Eloy Martín (El Paso), that, in the coming days, a Joint Monitoring Commission will be convened, of a technical nature, “for maximum collaboration and support” in the reconstruction of the island.
