The 7.4 billion that have been executed so far by the Government of Spain for the areas affected by DANA constitute 90% of the funds allocated by all administrations. This was indicated today by Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, during a visit to Catarroja (València), where the reconstruction works of municipal infrastructures damaged by the flood are being carried out.
Torres said that “the Government of Spain has demonstrated its commitment and continues to work, as it has done from the beginning, in the recovery of the areas affected by DANA. We are taking firm steps to restore normality as soon as possible.”
Of the EUR 7.4 billion allocated to the affected areas by the Government of Spain, 1,745 have been allocated to finance 100% of the reconstruction work on municipal infrastructures. “Today we are here, in Catarroja, where we have visited one of these infrastructures financed with funds from the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, such as the reconstruction of the underground garage of the Plaza Mayor, fundamental for the normalization of life in the municipality,” said Torres, who has indicated that these works have had a cost of 5.3 million euros.
In total, the Government of Spain has allocated more than 420 million euros to the municipality of Catarroja, among the funds destined for municipal infrastructures, funds of the Insurance Consortium, Civil Protection aid or those of the Ministries of Housing, Agriculture, Finance, Youth, Economy and Transport.
Torres, who has been accompanied by the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, Arcadi Spain; the delegate of the Government, Pilar Bernabé; the mayor of Catarroja, Lorena Silvent; and the special commissioner for the reconstruction and repair of the damages caused by the DANA, José María Ángel, added that the procedure to receive the advance from the EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF), amounting to 100 million euros, of which 30.8 million will be for the municipalities affected.
Tribute to the Civil Guard in Alfafar
In addition to Catarroja, the minister has presided, in Alfafar, an act of tribute to the men and women of the Civil Guard who worked to help the people affected and in the recovery tasks, organized by the Mancomunitat de l’Horta Sud. The tribute was attended by the president of the Mancomunitat, José Cabanes.
“From here I would like to thank each of the 5,290 civil guards who have given everything to help the people affected, as well as the rest of the State Security Corps and Forces and all public servants without whose professionalism and effort it would have been impossible to walk towards normality, for their sacrifice and spirit of service,” he concluded.
