The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, considers that the UN response known today, a month after the request raised by the Government of Spain, supposes “an irrefutable support to the position of the Government in the defense of Democratic Memory and human rights”, before the repeal of the law of Democratic Memory of Aragon and the so-called laws of “concord” in Castilla y León and Comunitat Valenciana.
The minister believes that these regional governments should sit down to negotiate the legislative texts because, “decisively”, the rapporteurs who have jointly signed the communication assure that these initiatives go against the values of the Democratic Memory Act, violate human rights, make the victims of serious violations of them invisible and violate international standards and treaties signed by Spain.
