The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, highlighted tonight that “it is 80 years since the shooting by the Third Reich of 23 people, 23 combatants, 23 resistance fighters who faced the Nazi invasion of France and Paris, among them, the Spanish Celestino Alfonso”
Ángel Víctor Torres, who participated in the vigil of the Mont Valérien in Paris, in honor of Missak Manouchian and his group of Resistance fighters against the Nazi occupation of France, including the Spaniard Celestino Alfonso, has highlighted the historic milestone represented by this recognition: “For the first time, the name of a Spaniard will appear in the Pantheon of Illustrious Men of Paris, as a combatant, resistant and defender of freedom”
The minister stressed that he attends this tribute in Paris, representing the Government of Spain and President Sánchez, “to recognize the courage of the people who defended with their lives freedom and the fight against fascism and Nazism, and recognizing the dedication of a Spanish hero, who is recognized here in Paris today.
