On Friday, the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, chaired the XIII Joint Commission for the reconstruction, recovery and support of the island of La Palma, in which he took stock of the resources mobilized so far by the State on the island, “they reach 929 million euros, an amount that approaches 1 billion euros”, which is the total assessment that was made of the losses and damages caused by the volcanic eruption.
The minister deducted the funds executed during these years to the most recent amounts, which are the 100 million grants approved in the Council of Ministers on December 19 to compensate for the economic damage caused to natural persons and companies, as a direct result of the eruption of September 19, 2021; and the 48 million euros that the final resolution proposal of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge contemplates for the study and development of projects related to geothermal in the island. “The Canary Islands is the community that will have the most funds for this - more than 100 million - and, within the Canary Islands, it is La Palma that receives the most resources from this program of the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE).”
