The Minister of Territorial Policy and Government Spokeswoman, Isabel Rodríguez, has today signed two agreements, one with the Island Council of La Palma and the second with the City of Los Llanos de Aridane, to grant and channel grants, approximately 12 million euros in each agreement, for the repair of infrastructure, equipment and municipal facilities damaged by the volcanic eruption.
The subsidies are produced in compliance with the provisions of Royal Decree-Law 20/2021, of 5 October, which adopts urgent support measures for the repair of the damage caused by the volcanic eruptions and for the economic and social reconstruction of the island of La Palma.
With these new subsidies, only the Ministry of Territorial Policy has allocated 38.5 million euros to La Palma to local entities on the island to repair the damage registered as municipal property.
Isabel Rodríguez has highlighted, beyond the figures, “a positive management experience among public administrations, offering solutions in an emergency situation. When we are together and united, we act more quickly and effectively.”
The minister also highlighted the speed of action of all the administrations, with the declaration of emergency, the constitution of the joint commission for the reconstruction of La Palma and the interministerial commission, with the presence of the different ministerial departments and, in addition, the processing times of aid have been reduced: “According to the Ombudsman’s report, we have managed to reduce the deadlines for aid that exceeds 577 million euros in La Palma, unpublished figures, when disasters have multiplied in the country, and reducing the processing time by a third.”
