The Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, has announced that she will promote a legal reform that will turn the FEMP into a “Public Law Entity” so that it can relate with greater legal certainty to the Government and the autonomous communities.
The minister, who opened in Torremolinos together with the president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Abel Caballero, the Conference “40 Years of the FEMP, Proximity and Local Power”, added that this recognition responds to “the will of the Government and its president to promote the FEMP and protect its future for the loyalty of the municipalities during democracy and for its important role during the pandemic and now in the economic and social recovery”.
Isabel Rodríguez also highlighted that the Ministry of Territorial Policy is working on a legal text to modify the Law on Local Regime Bases in the direction of “clarifying competences for municipalities and serving those with a smaller population, to combat the demographic challenge”.
