Meeting chaired by the General Secretary of Territorial Coordination, Miryam Álvarez, of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function, and the General Secretary of the Demographic Challenge, Elena Cebrián, of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, with representatives of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
The Basic Statute of the Small Municipalities is a novelty, which is part of the elaboration of the National Strategy against the Demographic Challenge, as already advanced at the end of February by the fourth vice-president. Teresa Ribera, and as the Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Service, Carolina Darias, recalled during her appearance on June 18 in the Commission of Local Entities of the Senate.
The three objectives that the future Basic Statute of Small Municipalities will pursue are the following: to fix the population to the territory, to maintain the democratic quality of the municipality, in accordance with our democratic state, and to guarantee the living conditions of citizens regardless of the territory in which they reside, with the provision of quality public services.
