In addition to the recovery of banana and avocado production, the fundamental basis of the countryside and the island economy, the Commissioner placed the accent on this edition of 'Fruit Attraction' in the proteas. One of the most acclaimed vegetable jewels of the La Palma stand, considered one of the most exotic and best quality flowers in the world. The commercial success of these flowers is so resounding that "from La Palma 70% of its production is exported to high-demand markets such as Holland, China, Japan and Canada," explained the Commissioner. This extraordinary volume of international business is possible thanks to the fact that the proteas adapt ideally to the climatic conditions of the island’s medium-sized areas, as is the case of El Paso, one of the municipalities that was most affected by the volcano and that today, heroically, has already managed to recover its level of production prior to the eruption.
