The structure already extends along the northern part of the beach of Puerto Naos, behind the restaurant Las Olas, and flows into the ocean in a remote place of the population, in order to relieve the pressure of the gases that accumulate in the low areas. The Commissioner for the Reconstruction of La Palma, Héctor Izquierdo, indicated that the tests to depressurize the subsoil using new extraction techniques began in November and are part of the 'CO₂ Alert' project, funded by the State, with the collaboration of Involcan and local institutions.
Installation of a tube in Puerto Naos to extract volcanic gases

Scientists from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences (IETCC), in collaboration with the Island Council and Firefighters of La Palma, have carried out an innovative experiment to depressurize the land in Puerto Naos and La Bombilla. The project is progressing with the installation of a pipe that will remove the gases accumulated in the subsoil of one of the garages of the so-called ‘black zone’, the one that suffers the most from the high concentrations of CO₂.
