Third visit to the island of La Palma de los Reyes de España, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, visiting the areas affected by the volcano, have met with those affected to know the reality of the island and its reconstruction after the eruption of the Old Summit (Tajogaite). Starting the visit in the viewpoint of the Lomo del Piojo, in the area of Tacande in an atmosphere, before, green with houses and crops, and now, some its memory under the laundry.

The Commissioner for Reconstruction, Héctor Izquierdo, described this first itinerary as “a rather graphic place of what happened on September 19, 2021”.

Visit to the center of La Laguna, in Los Llanos de Aridane, with a group of diverse affected: banana and avocado crop farmers, families of fishermen starting from scratch.

Izquierdo “Although the macro figures reflect some recovery, the ERTE worked and areas such as Puerto Naos and La Bombilla are reactivated, in agriculture the situation is different,” he acknowledged, since “it costs a lot to sorribar the laundry, that is, prepare the farm so that it can be cultivated again, and not everyone can afford it yet.”

For the commissioner, “this visit gives them hope, comfort and visibility to the reconstruction.”

The Commissioner accompanied Los Reyes along with the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, his counterpart in the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez and other local and island authorities.
