The Special Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the island of La Palma, Héctor Izquierdo Triana, reports that since the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano (Cumbre Vieja) between November 2021 and January 2025, the Government of Spain has allocated 10,159,960 euros to self-employed people in La Palma for suspending or ceasing their economic activity.
The new extension, published in RDL_9/2024, BOE 309 of December 24, will be in force until June 30, 2025, allowing autonomous people in this situation to receive an average income of approximately 912 euros, this benefit being compatible with other aid, such as the quarterly subsidies aimed at “mitigating the economic damages” of the paralysis of economic activity, also financed by the Government of Spain.
According to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, currently 94.4% of the self-employed affected by the eruption have voluntarily rejoined their activity, says Héctor Izquierdo.
