Approved Royal Decree establishing the thresholds of income and family patrimony and the amounts of scholarships and study grants for the academic year 2025-2026. The government approves an investment of 2,544 million euros in scholarships and increases the residency aid to 2,700 euros.
The increase of 200 euros, in the residence grant aimed at students who have to travel from their usual home to another city or autonomous community to study higher, according to forecasts will reach 101,000 students in rural areas, so that they can travel outside their municipalities. Among other novelties of this call is the equalization of students of higher artistic teachings to university students, which will benefit about 7,000 young people. All this will be carried out thanks to a record budget of 2,544 million euros, in addition to this budgetary increase, it is committed, for scholarships as a tool to guarantee educational equity and equal opportunities. Thanks to these improvements, the total number of scholarship holders has gone from 784,422 in the 2017-2018 academic year to nearly one million young people in the 2024-2025 competition.
According to Article 11 of Royal Decree 163/2025 of 5 March, BOE No. 55, the grants received under Royal Decree-Law 20/2021 of 5 October, which adopts urgent support measures for the repair of the damage caused by the volcanic eruptions and for the economic and social reconstruction of the island of La Palma, will not be included in the indicative thresholds that determine the granting or not of the scholarship/study aid.
It is worth mentioning the meeting held in November-2024 of the Special Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the island of La Palma, Héctor Izquierdo Triana with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Santiago A. Roura Gómez, among others, where the non-inclusion of the subsidies already received before for the computation at the threshold of the patrimonial income was projected.
