The Minister Joan Subirats, has expressed his support for the creation of an "unfettered university campus" from La Palma.

The Ministry of Universities will support the university training initiatives proposed by the Canary Islands universities, with training courses in astronomy, volcanology, or blue economy, among others.

The meeting took place with the rectors of the universities of La Laguna and Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, Rosa Aguiar and Lluis Serra, also representatives of the UNED and scientific institutions such as the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcán), the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC) or the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC).

After the meeting held on February 2, 2023, it was agreed to create a plan of "short duration" courses, of 15 university credits, called "microcredentials" with which to "help from the point of view of training and research to the reconstruction of La Palma".
