The special commissioner for the reconstruction of La Palma has met with representatives of the Canary Islands Government, the Cabildo, municipalities, affected platforms and business associations, as well as experts in volcanology and astrophysics during his first official trip to the island.
The first of the meetings, as soon as they reached the island, was held with representatives of the affected platforms, who transferred to Izquierdo their impressions, needs and suggestions on emergency management and reconstruction planning.
Héctor Izquierdo, a native of La Palma and a great connoisseur of the environment, informed them in turn of the measures and aid adopted by the central administration and reiterated the commitment of the Government of Spain, and his in particular, so that each palm tree and palm tree regains the illusion for a project of life on the island, since the reconstruction will be carried out from an efficient and sustainable perspective.
Héctor Izquierdo, special commissioner of the Government for the reconstruction of La Palma, made his first official visit to the island after his appointment on June 7. During his stay, he has held meetings with affected neighbors, representatives of the different administrations, businessmen and scientists.
After the meeting with those affected - the first of many, according to Izquierdo's promise - the commissioner met with the president and first vice-president of the Cabildo, Mariano Hernández and Borja Perdomo, respectively, as well as with the government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana. In the session, they addressed the situation of the pending aid, the need to look for housing solutions for the neighbors who are still housed in hotels and the works for the construction of the coastal road.
During his visit to the island, Izquierdo also had the opportunity to know the perspective of the mayors of the affected municipalities, visit the modular homes installed by the Government of the Canary Islands and meet with staff of the public planning and planning company Gesplan. He has also held a meeting with entrepreneurs, in which the consequences of the eruption on employment and the economy have been addressed. Finally, he also met with scientists from the volcanological and astrophysical institutes of the Canary Islands, with whom he analyzed the new opportunities presented by the island in terms of research or exploitation of geothermal energy.

The Special Commissioner of the Government for the reconstruction of the island of La Palma, with the rank of Under-Secretary and directly dependent on the head of the Ministry of the Presidency, is entrusted with the impulse and interdepartmental and interadministrative coordination of all the measures that make up the plan for the reconstruction of the island. In this work, the planning and restoration of infrastructures, the reorganization of the territory and the design and promotion of a sustainable economic model for the island will take on special importance.
