Ángel Víctor Torres has referred to the fact that what happened in Gernika 87 years ago “was not only silenced by the dictatorship, but was transformed into a lie and a colossal hoax”, referring to the version extended during the Franco regime that the inhabitants themselves had burned their houses. “Today, the truth deserves the recognition of all democrats. We are in an act of democracy, freedom, recovery of truth and recognition of the victims.”
Accompanied by the Secretary of State, Fernando Martínez, he has attended the events commemorating the 87 years of the air strike of Gernika-Lumo, he has attended the Gernika Awards for Peace to the Combatants of Peace and the Righteous of the Mediterranean associations, he has had a “special and full of emotion” meeting with the survivors of the bombing and, finally, he has participated in a floral offering to the victims.
