Headquarters of the Government of Aragon/Farlete Cemetery, Zaragoza/Farlete
The visit began with a working meeting with Pilar Alegría, delegate of the Government in Aragon, at the headquarters of the Delegation. Later he went to the Pignatelli building, headquarters of the DGA, where he met with the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of the Government of Aragon, Felipe Faci. The conversation between the two has focused on establishing the framework of collaboration between the Secretary of State and the DGA in the field of democratic memory. Some of the topics covered have been the exchange of information for the realization of the map of graves, the elaboration of a national DNA bank or the Four-Year Exhumation Plan.
After this meeting, the Secretary of State met with memorialist organizations at the headquarters of the Government of Aragon. Fernando Martínez has had the opportunity to explain the most important aspects of the Preliminary Draft Law on Democratic Memory and has informed them of the call for grants for activities related to the recovery of Democratic Memory and the victims of the Civil War and dictatorship.
This year, this aid totals 750,000 euros, of which 60% is used to finance activities related to the exhumation of people buried in graves. The rest of the aid is reserved for carrying out studies and research relating to the recovery of democratic memory, as well as the moral recognition of the victims of the Civil War and the dictatorship; publications, courses and actions of a scientific and/or informative nature on democratic memory and activities of collection, conservation, study and dissemination of the documentary or intellectual heritage of the Civil War and or the Dictatorship.
Fernando Martínez has ended his official trip to Aragón with a visit to the graves of the Farlete cemetery. The Secretary of State has been informed of the work being carried out in these graves, in which the exhumation work begins these days under the direction of Dr. Ignacio Lorenzo and with the participation of the College of Doctors and Graduates of Aragón.
In the graves of this cemetery there are two types of victims, civilians killed in a bombing and Republican soldiers.
