National Library of Spain, Madrid
The National Library of Spain hosts the presentation of the book Manuel Azaña, between myth and legend: biography of man, intellectual and politician, written by Ángeles Egido. The author of the book will be accompanied by the secretary of state of democratic memory, Fernando Martínez, and the writer Inma Chacón.
This activity is part of the events programmed on the occasion of the exhibition Azaña: intellectual and statesman. At 80 years of his death in exile, which can be visited in the National Library and whose curator is the Egido Angels herself.
The book analyzes Azaña’s main political actions regarding the Church, the Army, his own party or the autonomic problem, as well as his relations with intellectual and political figures of the time, from the Group in the Service of the Republic, to his particular encounters and disagreements with Ortega y Gasset, Araquistáin, Lerroux or, already in the war, Negrín, without forgetting the fidelity of his most direct collaborators, such as Domenchina, Martínez Saura or Casares Quiroga.
