Numerous Spanish intellectuals, academics, artists and writers, including Luis Cernuda, Manuel Chaves Nogales and Arturo Barea, began their exile while the British were preparing to face the Second World War. This commemoration that celebrates the memory of the Spanish exile hosts conferences, round tables, book presentations, and various events such as the tribute to the Sevillian Chaves Nogales that will take place in front of his tomb, in the cemetery of North Sheen, southwest of London.

For Ignacio Peyró, director of the Cervantes of London, "to claim exile is to reintegrate the memory of Spain, including that of those "Spaniards of the exodus and tears" of which León Felipe spoke".

The Embassy of Spain in the United Kingdom, the Magdalen College (Oxford), the University of Birbeck in London, the King’s College Modern Language Centre, the Circus Centre of the University of Seville, and the Iberian and Latin American Music Society, with the collaboration of the Interministerial Commission of the 80th anniversary of the Spanish Republican exile, participate in the organization of the program.
