The Student Residence, in Madrid, hosts the exhibition "Freedom Boats - The evacuation of Spanish refugees to Mexico (1939-1942)". The exhibition seeks to preserve the memory of the legacy of thousands of political refugees who arrived in Mexico fleeing the horrors of war and the climate of persecution, imprisonment and, most likely, a safe death.

In addition to the ship Sinaia, the vessels Ipanema, Mexique, Flandra, Quanza, Nyassa and Serpa, became protagonists and served to carry out collective evacuation expeditions. The exhibition, coordinated by the Ateneo de México and the Colegio Madrid, of Mexico, presents, in collaboration with the Interministerial Commission for the 80th anniversary of Spanish republican exile, a collection of photographs, but, above all, a set of stories of some of its protagonists and family memory, which are illustrated in this exhibition that can be visited until January 31, 2020.
