Civil guards from the Fiscal and Border Section of the Bilbao airport, together with officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency, intervened last June in a leather jacket from Anaconda Gigante that was wearing a passenger in the arrivals hall of the aforementioned airport.
The investigators of the Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service acting as the State Fiscal Guard, under the functional unit of the Regional Customs Unit e II.EE. of the AEAT of the Basque Country, daily they carry out, among other actions, inspections of passengers and luggage according to preventive risk criteria at the airport of Bilbao.
The agents carried out the review and inspection of the luggage carried by a traveler from Peru via Paris, observing that he was carrying 10,900 euros in cash, as well as wearing a jacket apparently made of snake skin.
When asked if he had the declaration of movements of means of payment (E1) of the money and by the type of material of the garment he wore, he said that he did not have the aforementioned obligatory declaration and that the hunter was Anaconda Gigante skin which he himself hunted with harpoon in the Amazon jungle.
The response of the passenger and the suspicion of the attempt to evade customs control alerted the civil guards and agents of the SVA, so the Official Inspection, Surveillance and Export Regulation Service (SOIVRE) was immediately consulted.
The aforementioned body confirmed that it was a protected specimen belonging to the family of “EUNECTES MURINUS” according to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and therefore proceeded to its intervention.
The author was investigated for an alleged crime against flora and fauna, and the capital he was carrying in cash was intervened. The proceedings were handed over to the Court of Guard of Bilbao.
