The next European elections that will take place on June 9 will bring together 1,791,167 citizens with the ballot boxes in the Basque Country, including 82,817 Basques living abroad. To cover these elections, the General Administration of the State has arranged 2,689 ballot boxes distributed in Álava (428), Bizkaia (1,403) and Gipuzkoa (858). Voters will have at their disposal almost 39.5 million ballot papers to be able to choose the political option that they consider most convenient to their interests.
For these elections to the European Parliament, 49,898 requests for postal votes have been received. Of these, 28,959 correspond to Bizkaia, 14,133 to Gipuzkoa and 6,806 to Álava.
The elections will be attended by 8,067 persons as full members of the Bureau (presidents and members) and 16,134 deputies have been summoned. The delegate of the Government in the Basque Country, Marisol Garmendia, has specified that the organization of the entire operation belongs to the State, as happens in the general elections. “1,851 representatives of the General Administration of the State will ensure the smooth running of the day and will be responsible for the transmission of data for the dissemination of electoral data. Those responsible for this collection and transmission of data will have 896 mobile devices. This will allow to cover practically all electoral tables except 22 tables in Gipuzkoa in which the transmission of data will be telephone due to coverage difficulties”, specified Marisol Garmendia.
The 9J elections will have a security device composed of 1,520 agents. These police forces consist of 939 Ertzainas, 173 national police, 120 civil guards and 288 municipal police.
Adapted vote
For this occasion, 20 requests for adaptation of the vote for people with visual disabilities have been produced and approved. These citizens will have a briefcase with the appropriate ballot papers in braillie to be able to exercise their vote normally and discreetly.
A request for adaptation has also been approved for the component of an electoral table, in this case due to hearing impairment. This person will be supported by a sign translator hired for the occasion so that he can carry out his work throughout the election day.
Results, not before 23.00 hours
Unlike the general elections, the official results of these European elections cannot be communicated until all the countries involved have completed their ballots. In this way, the results in Spain will not be communicated before 23.00 hours.
On the other hand, the Ministry of the Interior has made available to persons who have been designated as members of bureaux the table manual in an easy reading version with the aim of making this information accessible to all those who require it. The table manual is a document that must be read by all the people designated to be part of the polling stations, since it explains which people make up an polling station and its functions, the necessary material, what rules they must comply with within the college or local polling station or what problems may arise. Thus, this adaptation will allow a better understanding of the manual and the responsibilities of the members of the polling stations to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, among others. The manual is now available for download on the official website eleccioneseuropeas2024.es, and also on the CEACOG website, in the different official languages of Spain: Spanish, Catalan, Valencian, Galician and Basque.
