Historic day for the Civil Guard in the Basque Country. Next Saturday 8th, Basque citizens will have the opportunity to get to know this institution very closely for the first time during the open day that will take place at the Sansomendi headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz. From 11:00 to 13:00 hours, the public will have the opportunity to approach the facilities and learn in situ the various fields of action of the Civil Guard and participate in interactive activities as explained this morning by the delegate of the Government in the Basque Country, Marisol Garmendia, and the general of the area, José Antonio Mingorance, in a press conference offered in the barracks of Vitoria.
Marisol Garmendia, believes that this event is necessary and that it will be very useful to bring the Civil Guard closer to society. “This event is a historic milestone in the Basque Country that reflects the democratic and civic normalization that we live and must be welcomed with total normality. The Security Forces and Corps play an important role in Basque society together with other police forces to safeguard citizen security and guarantee civil rights and democratic coexistence.”
This type of event is usually held in other territories and from now on it is intended that it also acquires the rank of normality in Euskadi. As the Government delegate explains, “the purpose of this day of open doors is to make this Body known to the society it serves. It is another step in the approach to society promoted by the Security Forces, in line with the parade through the streets of the Sansomendi neighborhood that took place on May 14 on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the Institution.”
Marisol Garmendia and General José Antonio Mingorance have detailed the program of events in which up to a dozen specialties will be present on this day. Thus, as the general explained, “it will be possible to meet the Groups of Specialists in the Deactivation of Explosive Devices and of a nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical nature (GEDEX), the Police Team Specialist in Aeronautical Management and Operational Safety (PEGASO), the Maritime Service, the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS), the Cinological Service or dog training, the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), the Judicial Police, the Rapid Action and Traffic Group”.
This unpublished milestone will take place next Saturday. The doors of the Vitorian barracks will open wide so that young and old have the opportunity to get closer and get to know first-hand the various specialties of the Civil Guard with the main objective of offering an educational and playful experience.
Each of the specialties will have a stand where you can learn more about its operation and the means used to carry out its work. During the day, exhibitions of the different services of the Civil Guard will be interspersed, offering the public the opportunity to appreciate closely the resources and the functions and operational capacities.
Thus, for example, the youngest ones will have the opportunity to ride motorcycles equipped with their helmets, observe the two-colour vehicles closely, observe how the drone of the Pegaso team is handled or climb the GEAS water bike. The final exhibition of the canines will be another of the strengths of this event where the dogs will show their ability in the training exercises accompanied by their guides.
