Athletic’s success in the final of the Cup played last Saturday against Mallorca will have its continuation next Thursday, April 11 with the eagerly awaited walk of players and technicians through the Bilbao estuary on board the gabarra. An unprecedented celebration in recent decades and one that is expected to be massive with the presence of hundreds of thousands of fans to accompany their team and share the joy of triumph.
An event of this magnitude requires one of the largest security deployments that will be coordinated by SOS Deiak and in which the Government of Spain will participate in close collaboration with other institutions such as Athletic itself, the organization of the event, the Ertzaintza, the Red Cross, DYA, Local Police, the Port Authority and the other related agencies in the field of protection and security.
According to the delegate of the Government in the Basque Country, the General Administration of the State will contribute to the security device with 15 boats and the involvement of 10 specialties, among which the Maritime Service stands out, and the participation of about 100 civil guards. Other technical means that will be made available for the surveillance and security of the event will be a helicopter and an underwater drone.
The Civil Guard will be deployed throughout the Bilbao Estuary performing three main tasks such as the surveillance of the water sheet, the control of access of the boats to the event area as well as the accompaniment next to the Ertzaintza of the participating boats, among which the gabarra stands out, from the beginning of the tour until its completion.
The requirements of the skippers of the boats participating in the event have also been determined by the Maritime Captaincy, which are, among others, the obligation to navigate at the speed indicated by the safety coordinator and occupy at all times the position designated by the same, and not to perform any type of maneuver that may endanger the safety of the people on board, nor of the boat itself or other boats. The skippers are also responsible for the fact that there are no more people on the boat than authorized.
Athletic has obtained from the Demarcation of Coasts of the Basque Country the mandatory administrative authorization, limited exclusively to the area of the waters whose management is the responsibility of this body that extend upstream of the Euskalduna bridge, for the celebration of the nautical concentration commemorating the reception of the Cup Champion under the sectoral regulations of application.
