- It is estimated that the seized drug would have reached more than 417,000 euros on the black market and that the defrauded electric fluid reached 9,000 euros
The National Police arrested three men earlier this month as alleged perpetrators of drug trafficking, criminal group membership and electric fluid fraud, when they cultivated marijuana inside a home and illegally connected to the electricity grid to power the light generators with which they accelerated the growth of the plants.
The investigations, carried out by the Drug and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO) of Vitoria-Gasteiz, began at the end of October, when researchers learned that marijuana was being harvested in the hamlet of the town of Valdegovía. They also found that the three suspects formed a criminal group based in Vitoria-Gasteiz that had a logistics and production network covering the whole of Álava.
After collecting sufficient evidence and prior judicial authorization, the agents performed an entry and registration that confirmed the initial suspicions, discovering inside the house more than 700 marijuana plants, weighing 65 kilos, that were immediately seized, as well as abundant electrical material, luminaires, extractors, fans, fertilizers and plant growth stimulants that were also intervened. It is estimated that the seized drug would have reached a value of more than 417,000 euros in the black marking and that the defrauded electrical fluid reached 9,000 euros.
During the operation, in which some thirty agents supported by the Special Unit of Canine Guides of Bilbao and the RPAS-Drones Unit participated, the three investigated, aged between 28 and 31 years, were also arrested and brought to justice.
