- The environmental departments of the provincial councils of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa responsible for cleaning the coast and the Basque Government participate in the meeting
The government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, has invited institutions and heads of the General Administration of the State to a telematic meeting to share the current situation and possible responses to the threat of the arrival of plastic pellet remains on the coast of the Basque Country.
For several weeks it has been known of the existence of a spill in Portuguese waters of microplastic that has already reached the Galician coast and threatens the rest of the Cantabrian coast. The risk of the pellets reaching the coast of the Basque Country is real, so the institutions must coordinate to minimize the possible damage.
In the session that will take place this afternoon Denis Itxaso (delegate of the Government in the Basque Country), the representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Lourdes Oña (responsible for Maritime Rescue of Bilbao), Carlos García (Maritime Captain of Bizkaia), Josu Gotxon Bilbao (Maritime Captain of Passages); the representatives of the Ministry of Ecological Transition Alberto Martín (Head of Coastal Service of Gipuzkoa), Fernando Pérez Burgos (Deputy Minister of Agriculture)
