In the middle of last month, civil guards from the Fiscal and Border Section of Bilbao airport along with officials from the Customs Surveillance Service detained a woman with two packets of cocaine attached to her body at Bilbao airport.
The agents of the Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service acting as the State Fiscal Guard, under the functional unit of the Regional Customs Unit and II.EE of the AEAT of the Basque Country, daily carry out, among other actions, passenger identifications and inspections in their hand luggage in the boarding filters of the airport terminal.
The action was developed when private security personnel serving in the security arcs of the aforementioned filters, performed a random control to a passenger who has just accessed the restricted area of exits of the terminal. When performing a superficial scan, they detected a suspicious object attached to his body.
The guards immediately alerted the civilian guards on the security filter to perform their monitoring and surveillance functions to take over the passenger.
The agents proceeded to identify the traveler, with a foreign passport and in possession of a boarding pass for a flight to Switzerland. They then transferred the woman and her personal belongings to the authorized registration area, finding hidden under her clothing and attached to her body, two packages wrapped in transparent film containing, apparently, a solid substance.
Taking a sample from each of the packages, a white powder, and performing a drug screening test, showed a positive result in cocaine. The content of the two packs exceeded 370 grams.
The woman who was arrested for having committed an alleged crime against public health in the area of drug trafficking was placed at the disposal of the Bilbao Guard Court.
