Guards from the Fiscal and Border Section of Bilbao airport, together with officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency, have intervened 4,687 grams of cocaine to a passenger from Brazil at the airport.
The investigators of the Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service acting as the State Fiscal Guard, under the functional unit of the Regional Customs Unit e II.EE. of the AEAT of the Basque Country, daily they carry out, among other actions, inspections of passengers and luggage according to preventive risk criteria at the airport of Bilbao.
On April 10, while carrying out a fiscal check of luggage in the arrivals hall of the terminal, they observed a man picking up a suitcase in the office of lost luggage of an airline, the agents checked the origin of the passenger and the suitcase, being from Brazil with stopover in Madrid.
In order to prevent the entry of illicit goods into Community territory and following preventive risk criteria, they proceeded to view the luggage through the x-ray scanner, observing, apart from personal belongings, rectangular packages with high organic content.
On suspicion that it may contain narcotic substances, they proceeded to manually open the luggage in the presence of the man, verifying that he carried four packs wrapped in plastic on a double bottom of the suitcase, which contained a white powder. Subjected to different means of drug detection, it gave a positive result to cocaine. The weighing of the four packages was then carried out, determining a total weight of 4,687 grams of cocaine
A man was then arrested because he was the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health in the area of drug trafficking.
The detainee, his personal effects and the cocaine involved were placed at the disposal of the Bilbao Guard Court.
