The National Police has processed a total of 411 complaints during the Sanfermines, 20 percent less than those registered in 2023, when it was 512. On the other hand, the number of people detained during the holidays increased by 32 percent, from 44 to 58. The majority of the complaints, 165, relate to theft offences.
For its part, the Civil Guard Traffic Group has carried out 251 checks during the holidays and has practiced 91,594 alcohol tests with 425 positives.
The delegate of the Government in Navarre, Alicia Echeverría, has thanked the work done by the different police forces during the Sanfermines and has valued the coordination between all of them. In addition, he has highlighted the climate of “normality” in which the holidays have passed and the “effectiveness” of police work, as evidenced by the increase in the number of people detained.
In addition, it values positively the increased awareness regarding sexual assaults. “There is more denunciation and greater social rejection of this type of behavior,” said Echeverría.
National Police balance
The National Police, which mobilized nearly 900 officers during the holidays, registered a total of 411 complaints compared to 512 the previous year. Theft remains the most common crime with 165 reports, although it fell by 47 percent from 2023 (when there were 311 reports). There have been 17 reports of scams, 54 percent less than last year (37) and 16 reports of injuries, 60 percent more (10 in 2023). In addition, there have been 21 reports of robberies in different modalities, compared to 17 in the previous year.
On the other hand, the National Police has processed a complaint for a crime against sexual freedom and a person has been arrested for these acts.
In total, 58 people have been arrested, 32 percent more than in 2023, when it was 44. The most numerous have been the arrests for theft, 13, compared to 3 last year; and 16 for attacks against an agent of the authority (4 in 2023).
During the holidays, the National Police received 886 calls to 091, 37 percent less in the former Sanfermines (1,401).
Civil Guard data
On the part of the Civil Guard, the device for the sanfermines has integrated 680 agents. Its main activity during the festivities has been twofold: on the one hand, the monitoring of traffic safety and, on the other, citizen security controls.
In total, 91,594 alcohol tests have been performed with 425 positives and 9 with criminal rates. In addition, 237 drug tests with 114 positives have been performed. In the Sanfermines of 2023, 368 positives were detected by alcohol consumption and 139, by drug consumption. The Civil Guard Traffic Group has carried out a total of 251 checks during the holidays and has provided 5,180 information aids.
In terms of Citizen Security, 663 checks have been carried out and 91 offences related to the holidays have been detected: 27 linked to the Movement Regulations; 7 to the Arms Regulations; and 57 for possession and consumption of narcotic substances. The Civil Guard has also intervened in 67 crimes related to the Sanfermines, including 48 mobile phone thefts.
