The Government of Spain declared 2022 as the "Year of Ramón y Cajal Research", thus commemorating the most important scientific personality in the history of Spain. This event, of exceptional public interest, extends its duration over three years (2022-2025), in which numerous activities will take place that will recognize and honor his figure and discoveries, contributing to projects that, had it not been for his work, would not be carried out today. The National Currency and Stamp Factory – Real Casa de la Moneda joins this important event by coining a collector’s coin dedicated to our distinguished Nobel Prize.

His revolutionary theories marked a before and after in the study of the nervous system, this scientific discipline has taken on a very relevant role in our society. His neural theory and the law of dynamic polarization represented an important change in the way the human brain was interpreted, and his hypotheses about its functioning have been fundamental in the subsequent development of artificial intelligence and artificial neural networks.
