- “The National Police is an institution without whose active presence we could not understand the current social, political or economic reality of the city”
- “Your work, commitment, professionalism and effectiveness have made the Cartagena police station a reference in the fight against organized crime”, he has transferred to the agents
- “This city with origin, character and State vocation, is an absolute priority for the Government of Spain,” he said.
13 January 2026. The Government delegate today reaffirmed the commitment of the National Police and the Government Delegation to Cartagena in the commemoration of the 202 anniversary of the Corps, whose event was held at the Paraninfo of the Polytechnic University.
“Exactly two years ago, the National Police solemnly commemorated its two centuries of history a few meters from here. That expressly symbolized the commitment of the National Police and the Government Delegation to the city of Cartagena. Commitment that I reaffirm today with enthusiasm, because this city with origin, character and State vocation, is an absolute priority for the Government of Spain”, he said in his speech.
Francisco Lucas stressed that the National Police is a body without whose active presence we could not understand the current social, political or economic reality of Cartagena and stressed that its work and presence transcend mere police activity.
“In this football country, it is often said that a coach is judged by the results, not the game of his team. It would be like saying that we can only assess the National Police based on crime statistics. And although these figures are excellent here, on such a special day for the Institution I want to move away from the coldness of the numbers. Because, despite the great social, political and media interest they generate, they will never represent the character, dimension and impact of a reality that goes far beyond that of mere police activity,” he said.
In this regard, he valued the work of all the professionals who make up the Cartagena Police Station, “whose commitment, professionalism and effectiveness have made it a benchmark in the fight against organized crime.”
Lucas has conveyed an express recognition to Commissioner Damián Romero, who will retire next April after a brilliant and extensive career in the Corps.
“A national police officer never ceases to be one. And in the melancholy of the farewell, I can’t imagine greater satisfaction for a Carthaginian than retiring as head of the National Police Station in his own city,” he said.
In addition, the Government delegate thanked the Rector of the UPCT for his welcome at today’s event. “The National Police is not and cannot be oblivious to everything that happens in this academic institution. For security and knowledge already converge into an indissociable binomial. Thanks to the contribution of centers such as the UPCT, new promotions of university agents are being consolidated, whose technical and scientific profile allows the National Police to modernize and become professional,” he concluded.
Finally, the government delegate has congratulated the recognized agents with the entry into the order of police merit.
