23 October 2025. The government delegate has today highlighted the strength and capacity to transform our cities and towns of programs such as STARS of the DGT, which promotes safe and sustainable mobility in the movement of students to school.
“With this type of initiative, we promote alternatives to private cars on daily trips to and from school, and by educating our sons and daughters in sustainable mobility, we build a society with a better quality of life, safer and healthier,” said Francisco Lucas.
The government delegate, who has indicated that education is the best instrument to transform a society, has presided over the act of handing over these recognitions to fourteen educational centers in the Region of Murcia for the projects developed in the course 2024/2025.
“I would like to congratulate all the schools that have participated in this project. To all the students, teachers and families who have committed themselves to this initiative and to encourage the other centers in the Region of Murcia to join this project, which is increasingly consolidated”, he added.

Mrs. Del Rosario” by Torre-Pacheco They have been awarded the STARS Gold Award in the 2024-2025 academic year in recognition of their outstanding involvement in promoting changes in the travel patterns of young people and children on their daily school trips.
One hundred participating centers
In total, 100 schools in the Region of Murcia have been part of this project, which aims to reduce the dependence of the private motorized vehicle on school trips, promote values that support road safety, increase the autonomy of students, promote healthy habits and establish a network of knowledge exchange between the various actors involved, such as local entities, educational centers and other interested parties.
The delivery of STARS accreditations is part of a series of activities focused on students and municipalities developed throughout the year. This includes open days, cyclist training courses for teachers, workshops on prevention of consumption and driving, escape rooms, transfers from the mobile traffic park, transfers of models for road training, delivery of promotional gifts to coordinators and participating students, among others.

The event, held today in the Government Delegation, was also attended by the Provincial Traffic Chief, Virginia Jerez, and the Deputy Director General of Educational Planning and Innovation of the Autonomous Community, José Teodoro López Arnaldos.
