The government delegate appealed today in Torre Pacheco to the need to promote coexistence and combat hate speech from educational centers in the Region of Murcia, and reminded them that for this they have the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments.
“With this plan organized by the Government Delegation through its High Inspection of Education, we improve the protection and safety of students through training talks based on respect for fundamental rights and freedoms to promote coexistence and inculcate values as important as dignity and equality and prevent behaviors of gender violence, racism or xenophobia,” explained Francisco Lucas
The government delegate wanted to present this new edition of the Master Plan at the IES Gerardo Molina in Torre Pacheco, a town that this summer suffered one of those episodes of intolerance that this program aims to combat from the earliest ages.
“Therefore, this course has put the focus on the prevention of hate crimes, because in recent years, we are seeing a growth of these speeches that put coexistence at risk, as happened this summer precisely in localities such as Torre Pacheco or Jumilla,” he added.
The risks of the internet, bullying, road education, violence against women, the environment and hate crimes were the most demanding talks during the 2024-2025 academic year, in which professionals from the National Police, the Civil Guard and the Violence against Women Unit of the Government Delegation gave more than 2,161 talks in 455 educational centers in the Region of Murcia.
“Education is the most powerful tool to transform our society, and that is why I want to encourage all educational centers in the Region to request this Master Plan and thank the Security Forces and Bodies, as well as the other State agencies that participate in it,” said Lucas.
The government delegate has reported that, for the current academic year, 2025-2026, 451 socilitudes have already been received from educational centers, and that a change of trend has been detected in the most demanded topics, among which hate crimes become the third, with twice as many requests compared to the last academic year, 117 compared to 55 in the previous academic year.
The Master Plan, in addition to conducting talks for students, incorporates other actions such as:
-Coordination meetings with management teams, teaching teams and Ampas: 455 meetings were held last year.
-Increased vigilance in school settings: Last year, 7,640 surveillance actions were carried out by the State Security Forces and Corps.
-Permanent access to a police expert (On specific topics demanded by the centers)
-Exhibitions. Intended to bring the State Security Forces and Bodies closer to the students: Deactivation of explosives, guide dogs, anti-riot,…
The Master Plan, in an attempt to improve the confidence of children and young people in the State Security Forces and Corps, also includes exhibitions of both bodies, such as the one enjoyed today by the students of this center.
This plan is developed in schools that request it on a voluntary basis, is adapted to the needs of the school itself and involves students, teachers and parents, together with the State Security Forces and Corps, whose agents, through talks, meetings, exhibitions, conferences and surveillance, address the issues that are specific to the Plan:
- Bullying at school
- Drugs and alcohol
- Violent gangs, racism and intolerance
- Violence against women and discrimination
- Internet and social network risks
