- A mobile ITV will control during this week the technical conditions of commercial vehicles on the roads of the Region of Murcia
- The initiative is part of a generic surveillance campaign that runs until May 18
- 50% of the active fleet of vehicles in the Region of Murcia is more than 15 years old, highlighted the delegate of the Government in the presentation of the campaign
May 13, 2025. A mobile ITV will carry out during this week around eighty technical inspections of commercial vehicles on the roads of the Region of Murcia, which coincides with a generic campaign of surveillance and control of the technical conditions of vehicles that develops in parallel on interurban roads of the Region of Murcia until next May 18. In that period, the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard plans to control more than 10,000 vehicles.
If it is favorable, this roaming inspection does not involve the renewal of the expiration date of the ITV, and if not, the owner will have 15 days to correct the deficiencies detected and go to an ITV station with the repairs carried out, explained the delegate of the Government during the presentation of the campaign.
Mariola Guevara has indicated that the age of the vehicle is related to its safety level, and the risk of dying or being injured in hospital increases with the age of the vehicle.
“50% of the active fleet of vehicles in the Region of Murcia is more than 15 years old, and if we analyze the accident data of 2024 we see that the average age of the vehicles involved in the 43 fatal accidents is 13 years,” said Guevara.
For her part, the Provincial Head of Traffic, Virginia Jerez, recalled that the Spanish Road Safety Strategy 2030 identifies safe and connected vehicles as a strategic area, to which she pays special attention to reduce road accidents.
Jerez has detailed that last year, 7.5% of the accidents involving victims that took place on interurban roads had expired VTI (58 out of 770), and in 2% the concurrent factor was the condition of the vehicle (18 out of 770). The percentage is 2% for fatal accidents where the state of maintenance of the vehicles was present in 1 of the 43 accidents with deaths.
Therefore, the monitoring and control of the technical conditions of the vehicles, not only during the special surveillance and control campaigns programmed annually by the DGT, but as part of the usual surveillance and control activity of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, is essential.
In the last campaign of this type, the Traffic sector of the Civil Guard controlled a total of 12,068 vehicles on interurban roads, resulting in 826 vehicles reported, which represents 6.84% of the total, and filed 862 complaints.
