April 10, 2025. The delegate of the Government has highlighted the contribution of the CIS Guillermo Miranda to the process of social and labor reintegration of people deprived of their liberty during the last fifteen years and the need to make society aware of the work carried out by the three penitentiary centers of the Region of Murcia.
“Coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the center, I would like to highlight the extraordinary work of all its professionals in this complicated process of social reintegration and in the training and awareness activities they carry out to avoid the stigmatization and exclusion of inmates,” said during the opening day organized by the director of the CIS, Patricio Amorós.
Over the course of three days, and to commemorate this anniversary, various round tables have been held that have addressed the following topics: women, drug addiction, mental health, disability, foreigners, the gypsy community, poverty, education, training and employment… in which both public institutions specific to each area and social entities and prison staff have been represented.
“We have tried to have a special impact on the objective of opening the CIS to the outside, given that Murcian society, in general, does not know the existence and work of our center. To this end, during the month of March, we gave presentations at the main faculties of the University of Murcia in charge of training future professionals and prison collaborators: Right-Criminology, Psychology, Social Work and Social Education”, explained Amorós
In addition, for the same purpose, various solidarity actions have been carried out outside the center with the residents, such as providing assistance in social dining rooms, participating in work of collecting clothes or even cleaning public spaces.
The General Secretary of Penitentiary Institutions, Ángel Luis Ortiz, was in charge of closing the days after a round table in which the director of the CIS, the General Director of Criminal Execution and Social Reintegration, Miguel Ángel Vicente Cuenca and the Vice-Rector of Social Responsibility and Culture of the University of Murcia, Longinos Marín Rives, participated.
