- Since its implementation in 2020, the Minimum Vital Income has reached 135,900 beneficiaries and paid 500.6 million in our autonomous community
- During her visit to the provincial directorate of the INSS, the Government delegate highlighted the dimension of the work of this agency and its contribution to the well-being and living conditions of the citizens.
January 24, 2025. The National Security Institute paid a total of 4,052,110,488 million euros in pensions and benefits in 2024 in the Region of Murcia, which represents an increase of 7% compared to the previous year and 267,021,348 million euros more, the Government delegate reported this morning during her visit to the provincial direction of the INSS, where she has made a management balance of this agency last year.
Mariola Guevara, who has been accompanied by the provincial director, José Antonio Morales, has highlighted the dimension of the work carried out by its officials and its contribution to the well-being and living conditions of the citizens of the Region of Murcia.
“The figures are overwhelming, and their work is decisive, since their good management depends on the recognition, processing and payment of a wide range of benefits, pensions and subsidies that guarantee and define our Welfare State, such as the more than 400 million euros paid from January to October 2024 for temporary incapacity and birth and child care,” he said.
The government delegate has indicated that in December 2024, the number of pensions was 263,524, with an average amount of €1,120.10 and a total amount of €294,885,422, and 157,795 pensions were paid for retirement, with an average of €1,303.72 and a total of €205,179,872.
“The numbers, in themselves, are strong, but they are even more so in contrast if we compare the average pension when we came to the government, which was 980 euros and is now 320 euros higher. To give you an idea, the average amount of pensions if we applied 0.25% of the reform of the People’s Party would currently be 995 euros,” added Guevara.

-Permanent Disability, 30,532 pensions, with an average amount of € 1,053.43 and an amount of € 32,163,466.
-Widowhood, 61,814 pensions, with an average of 826,05 € and an amount of 51,061,726 €.
-Orphanhood, 11,817 pensions, with an average amount of 457.48 € and an amount of 5.406.094 €.
-Favor of relatives, 1.566 pensions, with an average of 686.12 € and an amount of 1.074.463 €.
Minimum Vital Income
Guevara has especially highlighted the importance of the Minimum Vital Income, since, according to him, one of the greatest challenges of the welfare state is to achieve a country without extreme poverty and the protection of children and more vulnerable groups.
“The Minimum Vital Income has become a powerful tool to combat poverty and promote social inclusion. From the implementation of the minimum vital income in June 2020 to the present, more than 13 billion euros have been paid nationwide, and in the Region of Murcia 500,654,449 euros have been paid. In this sense, the payroll for December amounted to 13,796,905 euros, which implies a year-on-year increase of 17.71%,” he said.
This benefit has reached more than 135,900 beneficiaries since its approval, including 72,212 adults and 63,688 minors. In December the number of beneficiaries was 105,671, and 24,175 have received child protection assistance.
The INSS has signed different protocols of collaboration with the municipalities of the Autonomous Community and with the areas of social affairs to facilitate the processing of the files of minimum vital income, and that is why this is the province that covers the largest number of population under these protocols, more than 96%.
José Antonio Morales highlighted the effort made to improve care for the citizen, and explained that, since its implementation in May last year, more than 9,000 SMS have been sent to workers and pensioners, facilitating the management of temporary disability and the provision of birth and child care.
Regarding temporary incapacity, the delegate of the Government recalled that yesterday the agreement between the INSS and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia for the control of Temporary Incapacity during the period 2025 to 2028 was published in the BOE, whereby the annual amount that could be received by the regional government would be 10,383,173€.
“Unfortunately, the Autonomous Community never meets the objectives set in its responsibility to manage and control the benefit together with the Social Security Management and Collaborating Entities in the first three hundred and sixty-five days of its duration of temporary incapacity, so it can barely justify between two and three million euros each year, of the ten that it could receive from the Government of Spain,” he concluded.
Finally, the delegate of the Government has informed that on January 28, the collaboration protocol “the administration near you” will be put into operation in the municipality of Librilla, between the Delegation of the Government of Murcia, the General Treasury of Social Security and the National Institute of Social Security, which aims to facilitate access to the administrative procedures of their respective competences to citizens residing in Spanish municipalities through the use of new technologies.
“With this project it is a question of facilitating and resolving the doubts that workers, pensioners and recipients of the Minimum Vital Income have about the procedures of their dealings with these Entities. It aims in this way to bring the administration closer to all citizens and facilitate the way of relating to Social Security,” he concluded.
