“During these dates there is a considerable increase in travel, which will reach 1,088,000 on our roads, motivated by the coincidence in this time space of the Christmas holidays, family celebrations and school and university holidays, so it is especially important to call for prudence and responsibility to drivers to avoid the consumption of alcohol and drugs at the wheel and another series of risky behaviors,” explained Mariola Guevara.
The delegate of the Government, who has been accompanied by the Provincial Traffic Chief, Virginia Jerez, and the commander of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, Francisco Javier Utrabo, has detailed that Operation Christmas will take place in three phases.

The Provincial Head of Traffic, Virginia Jerez, explained that it is especially important to pay attention to adverse weather conditions on the road and adapt the speed to the conditions of circulation, respecting the established maximum limits.
Accident Operation Christmas 2023-2024
In last year’s Operation Christmas, there were twenty accidents with victims on the interurban roads of the Region of Murcia, with the result of one deceased, three seriously injured hospitalized and 32 slightly injured.
Jerez recalled that, from last Monday, and until Sunday 22, a special campaign of surveillance and control of alcohol and drugs in drivers is carried out in parallel on our roads, in which the Civil Guard will control around 5,000 vehicles on interurban roads in the Region of Murcia and will carry out 110 drug controls, approximately.
In addition, the local police of thirty municipalities in the Region that have joined this campaign are strengthening the controls in the urban roads of their competence.
