- This action will be financed through contributions of the partners to the Company, through a participatory loan worth 7.5 million euros
Cartagena, October 15, 2024. The Board of Directors of the Cartagena High Speed Company today approved the signing of an agreement with Adif High Speed, which will allow the railway administrator to contract the drafting of projects for the integration of the railway in the city of Cartagena, including the refurbishment and expansion of the current station.
The action promotes the connection of Cartagena and its port and logistics area with the Mediterranean Corridor, through a new high-speed access, parallel to the current corridor, in standard and mixed width, through which passenger trains in standard width and Iberian and freight trains can circulate, up to the Escombreras junction, in Iberian width.
In the urban area, it is contemplated an integration of the entrance channel to the station (which remains as an icon of the city, preserving its centrality, and expanding its capacity to respond to the increase in traffic), along about 750 m, as well as an improvement of access to Torreciega.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano; the President of Adif and Adif High Speed, Luis Pedro Marco; the Councilor for Development and Infrastructure of the Region of Murcia, Jorge García Montoro; and the Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, in addition to the other councilors.
The agreement is a decisive step for the integration of the railway in the city, after the signing in March 2023 of the protocol between the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of the Region of Murcia, the City of Cartagena, Adif, Adif Alta Speed and the Cartagena Alta Speed Society.
In addition, the partners will sign a participatory loan worth 7.5 million euros to finance the drafting of the project, assuming Adif and Adif AV 50% of the amount, and the Autonomous Community and the City Council, 25% each.
In addition, the Board of Directors has dealt with other matters of an operational and corporate management nature that will facilitate the development of its activity.
