The delegate of the Government has today presided over the commemorative act of the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the Civil Guard, responsible for 97% of citizen security in the Region of Murcia and encompassing 55% of its inhabitants, as she said in her speech, in which Mariola Guevara has said that these figures demonstrate her contribution to the structuring and social and territorial cohesion.
“Because the Civil Guard is not an institution at the service of the Region of Murcia, but a structural part of it, a true reflection of its reality, a calque of the nuances and sensitivities that travel through it and, as such, an institution that also provides the opportunity to develop a fruitful career, with enormous possibilities for personal and professional promotion and development,” he argued.
The delegate of the Government has stressed that the values that she already sensed in the Civil Guard in her time as mayor of Alhama de Murcia have been “comfortably insignificant, since only daily contact and direct access to the interior of the institution allows to properly assess the dedication, abnegation, commitment, professionalism and high degree of sophistication of a modern and avant-garde institution that for 180 years has been going through the heart of our own history clinging to those inalienable values of sacrifice, loyalty, austerity, discipline, abnegation and benevolent spirit that constitute the moral framework on which the HUMADA II founded.
The delegate of the Government has valued that the work of the Civil Guard allows the Government of Spain to provide a quality service to the citizen in all corners of the Region in essential matters such as the prevention of citizen security and proximity care, relief during natural disasters and emergencies, protection of the environment and the land maritime public domain, port and airport custody and security, the fight against crime and cybercrime or the protection of the most vulnerable groups, with special attention to minors and victims of gender violence.
The event, designed to renew the commitment of service to society by the Civil Guard, the endorsement of the validity of the values and principles on which the Institution is based and the recognition and gratitude to those members of the Corps who have provided service to citizens so far, has concluded with the decoration and recognition of civil guards who provide or have provided service in the Region.
Finally, Guevara has had a few words of remembrance for the decorated and especially for all the agents who died in the act of service. “We will never forget them. We will never forget you,” he concluded.
