December 28, 2023. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), through the State Mercantile Society of Agrarian Infrastructures (SEIASA), has today signed an agreement with the Community of Irrigators Waters of the Tajo Segura Transfer of Librilla (Murcia) to undertake irrigation modernization actions worth 17,000,000 euros (VAT not included).
With this objective, the president of SEIASA, Francisco Rodríguez Mulero, has today initialled an agreement in Librilla (Murcia) with the president of the Community of Irrigators, Francisco Protriuno García.
The signing was attended by the delegate of the Government, María Dolores Guevara, the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, Mario Urrea Mallebrera, and the mayor of the town of Murcia, Leonor Hernández Sánchez, among other authorities.
The “Irrigation modernization project of the irrigated area of the Community of Irrigators Trasvase Tajo Segura de Librilla. Sector 1 (Murcia)” contemplates the integral modernization of these irrigation systems that currently present a system of water distribution by means of ditches or by flooding.
RENEWABLE ENERGY AND DIGITIZATION
The works include the execution of a regulation raft, pumping stations and a modern irrigation distribution network. The new infrastructure will be completed with a photovoltaic solar power plant and systems will be implemented to control water quality and water efficiency.
In addition, digitalization and automation are planned throughout the irrigation system. This modernization will benefit 689 irrigators who grow 892 irrigators in the municipality of Librilla.
The actions covered by the agreement signed today are included in the so-called “Plan for efficiency and sustainability in irrigation” of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) Phase II and are co-financed by Next Generation funds of the European Union. This means that the contribution of public funds will be up to 80 percent of the cost of eligible expenses, while the Community of Irrigators will contribute the rest. Having these funds, the works must be completed by 2026.
71.13 MILLION EUROS IN MURCIA
In the region of Murcia, under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through SEIASA, plans to invest to date 63 million euros in actions to modernize sustainable irrigation, use of renewable energies, reuse of regenerated water in irrigation or introduction of tools for the digitalization of irrigated agriculture.
Apart from the Recovery Plan, the MAPA, through SEIASA, executes two other actions worth 8.13 million euros, which means an overall investment of close to 71.13 million euros in the Region of Murcia.
