- The percentage represents 16% in 2023, year in which 7 of the 43 deaths so far were in an accident involving a van
- From today until next Sunday, 200 agents of the Civil Guard Traffic Group will control 4,700 vehicles of this type in a new campaign of the DGT
- The government delegate highlights the opportunity to increase preventive controls on a type of vehicle that, with 72,786 units, accounts for 6% of the regional car fleet
November 20, 2023. Twelve of the fifty-three fatalities recorded on urban and interurban roads in the Region of Murcia in 2022 lost their lives in accidents involving a van, which represents 23% of the total, the Government delegate reported this morning during the presentation of a new campaign of control and surveillance of this type of vehicles that will be developed from today and until next Sunday.
“This is a timely campaign, because there are 73,000 vans in the regional car park and the percentage of accidents with fatal victims in which a van was involved already represents 16% so far this year, so, during this week, and with a fundamentally preventive character, about 4,700 vehicles of this type will be controlled,” explained Francisco Jiménez, who has been accompanied by the Provincial Traffic Chief, Virginia Jerez.

World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accident Victims
Yesterday, 19 November, as every third Sunday in November, World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was commemorated, as proclaimed at the 2005 United Nations General Assembly.
This day aims to sensitize the population of the pain and suffering caused to millions of people by road accidents, as well as to promote the firm commitment of the whole society, and especially of administrations, organizations and companies to attend to traffic victims with sensitivity and justice, to combat the unconscionable behaviors that constitute true road violence, and of the common effort for safety and human protection.
