October 26, 2023. The Government delegate, Francisco Jiménez, and the Provincial Traffic Chief, Virginia Jerez, gave this morning the STARS accreditations of the DGT to thirteen schools in the Region of Murcia for promoting safe and sustainable mobility in the travel of students to school.
The CEIP "Virginia Pérez" of El Algar has been recognized with the STAR gold distinction in recognition of its outstanding involvement in promoting changes in the travel patterns of young people and children on their daily school trips. In total, thirty-four schools in the Region of Murcia have been part of this project, of which twenty-seven are of Primary and seven are of Secondary and IES. The purpose of this initiative is to reduce the dependence of the private motorized vehicle on school trips, promote values that support road safety, increase the autonomy of students, promote healthy habits and establish a network of knowledge exchange between the various actors involved, such as local entities, educational centers and other interested parties.
The delivery of STARS accreditations is part of a series of activities focused on students and municipalities developed throughout the year. This includes open days, cyclist training courses for teachers, workshops on prevention of consumption and driving, escape rooms, transfers from the mobile traffic park, transfers of models for road training, delivery of promotional gifts to coordinators and participating students, among others.
