September 18, 2023. The government delegate has expressed his revulsion at the murder of a woman in Cieza in an alleged case of gender violence. Jiménez, who today presided over a minute of silence in memory of the victim, has made a public appeal to join forces in the face of data on deaths and active cases that he considers shocking.
The government delegate indicated that Cieza would be the first death due to gender violence in the Region of Murcia in 2023, and regretted that there are currently 4,551 active cases, 1,567 of them incorporated into the protection system in 2023.
“Throughout this year there have been more than 2,044 complaints in the Region of Murcia out of a total of 46,327 throughout Spain. These are shocking facts that confirm that we must continue to promote these protection policies and insist that citizens do not stop denouncing any case of this nature, because they are all deplorable, but some end up in a homicide and with the death of innocent people,” he said.
Since 2003, the number of deaths due to gender violence in the Region of Murcia has risen to 35.
