- At 15 hours, the DGT launches a special device that will last until 24 hours on Tuesday, August 1
- Since the beginning of Operation Summer last July 1st, there have been fifty-two accidents with victims in interurban roads of our Region, with a balance of three deaths, five serious injuries and seventy minor ones.
July 28, 2023. At 15 hours begins the special traffic device designed by the DGT on the occasion of August 1, which contemplates 526,800 movements on the roads of the Region of Murcia, which represents 21% of the total vehicle movements planned for this month.
This device is one of the three major operations that constitute the Summer 2023 Special Operation (Departure, August 1st and Return), which began on July 1st and which since then has accumulated a balance of fifty-two accidents with victims, three deaths, five serious injuries and seventy minor injuries in the Region of Murcia.
“Although there will be many journeys during the five days of this operation, the largest concentration of vehicles will take place on Friday, between 13 and 21 hours, and Monday and Tuesday from 15 to 21 hours. For this, we have designed a device with 200 agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, who will establish extraordinary services of control, regulation and surveillance,” explains Virginia Jerez, Provincial Traffic Chief.
The Civil Guard will be supported by the Levante Traffic Management Center (CGTL) and the Variable Message Panels available on our main roads. In addition, there will be five fixed and section speed control points, with six mobile radar units and air support (helicopters and drones) that could be programmed by the CGTV.
Accident
Between January 1 and July 26, 2023, 387 accidents involving victims were recorded on interurban roads, in which twenty-four people died and fifty were hospitalized.
In relation to last year, there have been 30% more casualties with victims, although the number of deaths has decreased by 8% and the number of serious injuries by 21%.
“42% of the deceased are vulnerable users, which is 11% more of this group than last year at that time. Of the 21 people who died forced to use a safety system (belt/helmet), seven did not use them, which translates into 33%,” adds Jerez.
Regarding the consumption of alcohol/drugs while driving, 54% of the deceased drivers on interurban roads, analyzed by the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), show a positive result in the consumption of some of the substances mentioned: 23% had consumed alcohol, 23% drugs and 8% both combined.
