July 20, 2023. About 60,000 people, 59,552, will vote for the first time in the Region of Murcia in a General Election next Sunday, July 23, a process to which 1,099,701 voters are called, 37,861 more than in the previous elections of November 10, 2019, the government delegate reported this morning.
Jiménez has detailed that the electoral census of Spanish residents on this occasion amounts to 1,061,940, and that of residents abroad adds 37,761 people, while 51,580 citizens have requested the vote by mail, which is 25,112 more than the 26,468 that did it in November 2019, 95% more.
“The electoral system is composed of 1,716 tables, with 5,148 members, and 691 representatives of the Administration, which will be distributed through the 579 electoral colleges, and the total budget amounts to 1,222,016.22 euros, 121,461.14 euros more than in the Generals of 2019,” explained the government delegate.
Jiménez has highlighted that the personnel that makes possible the development of the electoral process are distributed between those assigned to the electoral boards, municipalities and Government Delegation and the 2,176 agents of the National Police (670), Civil Guard (1,066) and local police (440), who will ensure the security of the day. Of the 579 electoral sites, the National Police will guard 221, the Civil Guard, 249 and the local police, 109.
Murcia, with 342,704, Cartagena, with 160,825, Lorca, with 66,966, Molina de Segura, with 53,833, and Alcantarilla, with 31,497, are the localities with the highest number of voters. Ojós, with 515, and Ulea, with 726, are the municipalities with the least citizens with the right to vote.
Electoral Assistance and Monitoring Center
The Government delegate has valued the work, effort and dedication of all the staff of the Government Delegation and the Electoral Census Office.
“This work culminates in the constitution, on the same Sunday, of the Center for Attention and Monitoring of the Electoral Process, with more than ten people dedicated to resolving any type of incident that may happen during the day. We must remember that this same team has worked, without a solution of continuity, in this new process since the day after the celebration of the local and regional elections on May 28,” added Jiménez.
Accessible voting procedure
The accessible voting procedure provides applicants at the polling station on election day with a voting briefcase that includes standardized ballot papers and envelopes (i.e. envelopes and ballot papers identical to those used by other voters) and additional documentation in Braille, (explanatory guide in Braille, stickers in Braille and ink identifying content) that allows the visually impaired voter to identify the desired voting option with full autonomy and with the guarantee of the secrecy of the vote.
On this occasion, seventeen people have requested the accessible voting kit, five in Murcia, three in Totana, two in Cartagena, two in Alcantarilla and one in the towns of Bullas, Beniel, Yecla, Librilla and San Pedro del Pinatar.

As usual on each election day, the Red Cross will have 100 volunteers and will have a presence in fourteen municipalities with medical units and vehicles adapted to transfer to the polling stations people with reduced mobility who need transport.
