- The Government delegate and the Provincial Traffic Chief have presented a special control and surveillance campaign focused on the importance of vehicle maintenance.
- From today until next Sunday, 200 agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard will control around 9,000 vehicles
June 5, 2023. 51% of the 1,160,220 vehicles registered in the Region of Murcia are over 15 years old, has warned the delegate of the Government during the presentation of a new campaign of control and surveillance of the technical conditions of the vehicle that has started today and will last until next Sunday.
“The condition of the vehicles has a decisive influence on road safety, hence the importance of the lights, tyres or damping, among other elements, being in perfect condition, and that is why we carry out this preventive campaign, with the intention of developing among the drivers the necessary awareness about the importance of good vehicle maintenance,” said Caridad Rives in the presentation of this campaign, which took place at the RM-A5, in the municipality of Molina de Segura.
Rives has said that it is necessary to reduce figures such as those recorded in 2022, year in which the average age of the vehicles involved in the 43 fatal accidents recorded was sixteen years in passenger cars, fifteen in vans, thirteen in trucks and ten in the case of motorcycles.
The Provincial Head of Traffic, Virginia Jerez, has highlighted that plans such as the decade for road safety 2021-2030, the European Union’s Zero Vision, or the DGT’s own road safety strategy establish a very clear relationship between the age of the vehicle and the greater possibility of suffering a road accident.
