May 24, 2023. A total of 1,070,000 voters, which includes the 10,771 foreigners residing in the Region of Murcia, will elect 773 councillors, four more than in 2019, of the 45 municipalities in the Municipal Elections on Sunday, May 28, which coincide with the autonomous elections, in which 1,096,765 citizens will be able to vote.
The delegate of the Government has detailed that the budget for this call amounts to 1,155,447.54 euros, and the votes will be held at the 1,716 tables, with 5,148 members and 690 representatives of the Administration, distributed by the 580 electoral colleges.
“It should be noted that 64,246 voters vote for the first time in local and regional elections, and that there are 57,029 people who vote for the first time, that is, new voters regarding the last electoral process, which was the General Elections of November 2019,” explained Caridad Rives.
The delegate of the Government has clarified that the number of voters varies in each of the processes, since the electoral census for municipal elections is made up of Spaniards and foreigners residing in the Region of Murcia (CER+CERE), and the autonomous ones is made up of Spanish residents and Spanish residents absent abroad (CER+CERA). In this call, the CER amounts to 1,059,229 voters, the CERE is formed by 10,771 voters and the CERA by 37,536.
“One of the most notable developments is that the British continue to vote in the municipal elections, but no longer as members of the EU, but because of the bilateral agreement that still exists with the United Kingdom. Therefore, its number of voters has fallen to 2,120 compared to 7,261 of 2,019, so it is no longer the country with the highest number of voters, since it has been surpassed by Romania, with 2,256.
The CERE MUNICIPAL vote totals 10,771 voters, of which 2,256 are Romanian, 989 French, 945 Italian, 656 Bulgarian, 646 German, 2,465 from the rest of the EU countries and 2,814 belong to countries with agreement. The latter come from countries with which there is a reciprocity agreement, United Kingdom, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Norway and Iceland.
Vote by mail
The number of requests for postal votes accepted is 23,112, a figure very similar to the 23,569 of the local and regional elections of 2,019.
Personal
The personnel who make it possible to carry out the electoral process are distributed between those assigned to the electoral boards, municipalities and Government Delegation and the 2,293 National Police (737), Civil Guard (1,146) and local police (410), who will ensure the security of the day. Of the 580 polling stations, 159 will be guarded by the National Police, 229 by the Civil Guard and 198 by the local police.
Electoral Assistance and Monitoring Center
The Government delegate has indicated that this electoral process concludes a work of enormous effort and dedication on the part of all the staff of the Government Delegation and the Electoral Census Office. This work culminates in the constitution, on Sunday, of the Center for Attention and Monitoring of the Electoral Process, with more than ten people dedicated to resolving any type of incident that may happen during the day.
Red Cross and 061
As usual on each election day, the Red Cross will have 100 volunteers and will have a presence in sixteen municipalities with medical units and vehicles adapted to transfer to the polling stations people with reduced mobility who need transport.
