February 21, 2023. The government delegate has announced that during the second half of March will begin the new proximity service that increases the frequencies between Cartagena and Murcia to ten trains per day, and has indicated that the trips will be free for regular travelers, since the same conditions will apply as for the conventional medium-distance services established in article 56 of RD-law 20/2022: free subscriptions with a validity of four months, deposit of 20 euros per title and a minimum use of 16 routes in the period.
“As I announced in Cartagena last October, the Government of Spain declared this line as a Public Service Obligation, which implied a series of obligations that “shield” this service and ostensibly improve mobility between the main cities of the Region of Murcia,” said José Vélez.
It is a three-year pilot experience, which can be extended by agreement of the Council of Ministers if sufficient levels of use are met, which aims to respond to the daily mobility needs of citizens with intermediate frequencies between the services of Neighbourhoods and those of Media Distancia.
After evaluating the specific characteristics of these areas, Mitma concluded that this innovative proposal is the most appropriate to improve the region’s mobility in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable way.
“With this step, we offer an alternative to the citizens of the Region, who have to move between Murcia and Cartagena. In addition, this will be a great help for workers, students and families who are currently going through difficult times due to the rise in the price of fuel that has caused the war in Ukraine,” he said.

The multi-travel titles of the new proximity service will be:
- Regional Bonus 10 (Proximity Bonus 10). For all trains and medium or medium-low recurrence. Valid to make 10 trips in 45 days for a certain origin-destination.
- Regional Monthly Pass (Monthly Proximity). For all trains and high or medium-high recurrence. Valid for unlimited travel compatible in a natural month for a certain origin-destination. Access to the train will be made after formalization of the trip.
