“This government has a clear commitment to creating stable and quality jobs in Melilla.” The Delegate of the Government in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, has referred to the investments and policies that the Executive of the Nation is carrying out and that are translating into an improvement of the economy, but also in the creation of employment, in job stability and in the improvement of the rights and conditions of the workers in our city and in the whole country.
If a few days ago we saw a new fall in unemployment - the fifth consecutive month that unemployment fell in Melilla - which reduced 7,638 job seekers in the autonomous city, there was also the best data of the historical series in terms of affiliation to Social Security, with 25,344 participants.
“When we arrived at the Government in Melilla there were 22,824 people affiliated in Social Security, today that figure has grown by 2,520 affiliates and affiliates,” said the Delegate.
214% more open-ended contracts
As the head of the Government Delegation explained, the central executive’s commitment to employment has also been with respect to stability and quality.
Thus, he explained that, since the approval of the labor reform, in 2019, the number of indefinite contracts in our city has tripled. “Six years ago in our city there were 2,071 melillenses with an indefinite contract. Today there are 6,517 people with an indefinite contract. This is an increase of 214.7%,” he said.
“The employment data reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Spain to quality employment, job stability and the improvement of workers’ rights and conditions,” he stressed.
31 million euros in Employment Plans
Finally, the highest representative of the Government of Spain in Melilla has referred to the employment policies that the Executive of the Nation is carrying out in our city and that are reaching record investment figures.
Thus, he stressed that Melilla, between 2024 and 2025, will receive 100 million euros in employment in active employment policies and for benefits and subsidies in these two years.
Of these EUR 100 million, EUR 60 million will be earmarked for active employment policies. Thus, with regard to active employment policies, the investments executed from February 2024 to the present amount to 33,377,000 euros, to which must be added the 25,800,000 euros that are going to be invested in the remainder of this year 2025, which makes a total of 59,177,000 euros.
In terms of benefits and subsidies, Melilla has received 25,951,000 euros over the past year 2024 to date to which another 13,356,000 euros will be added during the next months of this year, which implies a sum of 39,308,000 euros.
Specifically regarding Employment Plans, in this year alone 2025, our city will receive 31 million euros, which will translate into about 3,000 jobs.
As he explained, to the 26 million euros that represent the two Employment Plans of the Delegation this year, we must add another 5 million euros that the State Government has transferred to the Autonomous City of Melilla to also be able to carry out another Employment Plan. “A very important game that will come to respond to the employability of Melilla,” he said.
